CJess asked:

The following is a brief paper I wrote for my Economics class:

Under the direction of President George W. Bush, anti-trade and anti-business sentiment was on the rise. As the countrys economic problems have gotten worse, the pro-market theme has not so much become less as disappeared. The administration has been forced to swallow what remained of its commitment to market forces and deregulation with a $250bn bank recapitalization.

It seems safe to assume that US finance will change profoundly as this crisis works itself out, regardless of whom the country chooses as its next president in the upcoming election. Simply restoring the stringency of some earlier regime is not an option. Better regulation is needed, but history shows that designing it will be difficult. A new approach to financial regulation would hardly signify the end of American capitalism.

In the short term, the recession will shrink the tax base and worsen the excess of spending over revenues. The eventual bill for the current rescue package is likely to be less than $700bn, since some value will be recovered from the assets and equity that the Treasury acquires. American capitalism would surely retain its distinctive vitality, which springs from a zeal for competition, innovation, and sheer hard work that seems bred in the bone.

Does this seem OK?
It’s supposed to be one page, but it falls a little short. Is there a way I can expand this?

Is Tales of Symphonia Wii any good?

David S asked:

IGN gave it a low score because it was just like the gamecube one, and it wasn’t innovative; but since I never played the first Symphonia game, I don’t really care if it’s the same game in another package.

So, innovation and technical issues aside, is Tales of Symphonia Wii worth buying?

Think About Your Packaging First

sam fergusson asked:

Most people probably did not think immediately about the packaging when they started working on a product, and instead focused only on their product, trying everything to make it better. But what people need to realize is that packaging is actually a big challenge when trying to sell retail products since it is there to catch the eye of the potential buyer and will certainly help to sell if done properly.

One thing you can actually do is look for products that sold well hugely thanks to their packaging. You can actually learn a lot buy looking outside your industry.

By doing so, you will soon realize that it is vital to think about the packaging right at the beginning of the process. Whether you are working on a new MP3 player or a disk, you need to focus on CD packaging or DVD packaging or of course any other products packaging. A lot of different companies tend more and more to think about the packaging from the beginning and include it as an important part of their business plan.

So, by looking at your competitors or other companies outside your industry, you should be able to see the following about your packaging strategy:

First of all, you need to really focus on the packaging from the beginning and spend a proper amount of money on it.

Then, you also need to stay in line and consistent with what you are already offering. Consumers might get confused if your product lines have got too different packaging.

As said above, look at your competitors to see what they have done and benchmark from them.

In the end, always remember that doing simple usually works much better than going into a complex packaging.

Innovation is good though and going for an innovative packaging, even if risky can get great results. If you think a fun packaging could get your customers too confused, you can still go for something reusable that will please people that are into recycling for example.

You also have to keep in mind that the packaging is the first thing people will see of your product and as a result they will judge it by the packaging before using it. That is one more reason to get the packaging right, whether it is for CD packaging, DVD packaging or any other kind of packaging. So you need to make sure that you get your packaging done by professionals to have a perfect result.

In many things written about apple a big part of apple products is the unboxing of that certain product. With the new activation in store are they going to open all the boxes in the store and activate it that way or are they going to scan like a serial number. I am not one of those people to put my unboxing video on youtube, but I do like the innovation ways that apple packages its products.

How Packaging Can Reduce Transportation Costs

Edith Wright asked:

In the competitive manufacturing world, new, innovative products are constantly being introduced that are designed to save users enormous amounts of time and effort. And manufacturers of consumer goods are not the only industry trying to win the title of Most Innovative. Even business-to-business organizations, like the vendors who supply materials to manufacturers, have entered the game with products that aim to help manufacturers realize significant savings.

The packaging industry has also put its hat in the innovation ring, and with great success. For example, a relatively recent innovation, corrugated plastic, has taken the packaging industry by storm, and manufacturers are just now starting to realize the products benefits. Plastic corrugated is a durable material designed to replace the conventional paper, or cardboard, corrugated products which once dominated the packaging industry. Corrugated plastic is formed when two plastic liners are fused together on either side of a sheet of wavy plastic known as fluting. Together, these three layers create a weather- and chemical-resistant material whose properties offer a superior alternative to traditional packaging methods.

For manufacturers, the benefits of plastic corrugated are plenty. Just take a look at this list of how corrugated plastic can help manufacturers save resources:

Plastic corrugated will outlast cardboard corrugated by 20-40 times and can be used over and over, so manufacturers have to replace fewer cartons, resulting in significant cost savings in both obtaining new cartons and disposing of the old ones. Corrugated plastic is stronger than cardboard. Product test results have shown that it has a tensile and tear strength over twenty times greater than paper, guaranteeing manufacturers that their product is better protected and more likely to arrive at its destination unharmed. Plastic corrugated can be fused together in a process called sonic welding; resulting in unique sizes, shapes and designs. This process can be employed to produce custom-fitted products that meet an individual manufacturers specifications. Corrugated plastic is available in 14 standard colors and can be printed, so even when a product is in shipment, the manufacturer can maintain brand identity. Plastic corrugated is lighter than cardboard, so it costs less to ship. Plastic corrugated is inert to nearly all acids, chemicals, detergents, grease, and oils, is UV-resistant, and can withstand temperature extremes from 17 degrees Fahrenheit to 230 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the best packaging product for many industries. Corrugated plastic is 100% recyclable and environmentally friendly, enabling manufacturers to adhere to the many new environmental laws being enacted all over the world.

In closing, plastic corrugated returnable packaging offers numerous advantages over paper corrugated expendable packaging. As decision makers are being pressed for cost savings, sometimes an evaluation of their packaging will yield unexpected and positive results.
